During construction of the solar plant, there were a number of operational and safety issues faced.

These included:

  • The presence of multiple skylights across each of the warehouses, which presented a challenge for worker health and safety
  • No safe roof access on some roofs
  • Limited water supply around the premises, creating operational hurdles during construction and potential problems for future operation and maintenance
  • Presence of vehicles constantly moving around site, especially over areas that needed to be excavated during construction

The CleanMax team resolved these issues by:

  • Using protective wire mesh to cover the skylights, allowing for adequate fall protection in case workers stepped on them
  • Setting up safely designed monkey ladders that facilitated easy access to each of the buildings on site
  • Undertaking additional plumbing works to allow water accessibility from the roof
  • Working a night shift and quickly excavating the required area and placing cables where necessary in only 6 hours, ensuring zero disruption of the client’s schedule and vehicle movement

The rooftop solar plant at Danube’s Dubai facility has realized a saving of AED 300,000 every year. The solar power project is expected to abate 845 tons of CO2 per annum, which equals abating greenhouse gas emission from more than 163 passenger cars driven for an entire year.
