High Air Pollution Levels In NCR May Hit India’s Solar Power Generation Plans

High pollution levels could play spoilsport in India’s solar power generation plans. For instance, in the National Capital Region (NCR) centred on Delhi, high pollution levels have hit the efficiency of solar rooftop projects to the extent of 10%. Solar power generation is impacted by dimming effect, a phenomenon wherein amount of solar radiation reaching earth’s surface decreases due to presence of pollutants in air that absorb solar radiation and reflect it back into space.
